learning and earning
At first, being financially dependent on their children, parents prevented our students from attending school regularly. In response to this, StreetWise reprinted student artwork from art class and launched a product line of cards & stationary. 50% of the gross profits goes to the Student Fund, providing students with monthly income for their families. The other 50% goes to the School Fund to sustain StreetWise’s operations, enabling them to ‘learn and earn’.Student Fund
Students twelve and above, earn a monthly income between Tk.1,250 and Tk.1,500, while those under twelve, earn between Tk. 750 and Tk.1,000, competitive with the income they would generate on the streets. This gives their parents a strong incentive to keep their children in school.
School Fund
The School Fund goes towards the operation of the school (ie: rent, utilities, books, supplies,) as well as costs to run the family and student services. Students therefore, play a vital role in helping themselves and making StreetWise self sustainable. The children are not dependent on the guardians for tuition and fees, nor are they dependent on charity. This in turn, gives students ownership and pride to better ensure the program’s success.
